Abstract

This study uses a quantitative approach through correlational techniques and survey methods. The population of this study were 202 students of the high grade SDN Bintara Jaya VI Bekasi with 67 students as the sample. Sampling using simple random sampling technique. The variables studied were reading habits and story writing ability. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and tests. The validity test uses the Product Moment formula, while the reliability test uses the Alpha formula. The data analysis used descriptive analysis and parametric statistical techniques. Descriptive analysis by presenting data through tables and bar charts, while parametric statistical analysis through product moment correlation technique. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that the students 'reading habits were in the good category, which was 42% and the students' story writing skills were in the moderate category, namely 39%. The results of statistical analysis using the product moment correlation technique obtained rcount value of 0.8929. Meanwhile, the r table price with N = 67 at the 5% significance level, which is equal to 0.2027. From these results, it can be seen that the value of rcount> rtabel, this shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between reading habits and the ability to write stories. So, this study concludes that there is a positive relationship between students 'reading habits and students' story writing abilities.
