Abstract

Speaking is a form of communication for convenying words or sounds of articulation to express, or to deliver ideas, opinion or feeling. This research was aimed to find out the improving students’ speaking skill through discussion method. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The technique of from observation sheet, interview, and speaking test (oral). The subject of this research was the grade eight of SMP Assalafy Jakarta Timur, in academic year 2018/2019. It consisted of one class with 30 students as respondents it concluded of research can be explained in three cycle. Cycle 1 has the data of 60% students to achieved the standart score achievement, cycle 2 has the increase of 77% to achieved the standard score achievement, and cycle 3 has 90 % to achieved the standard score achievement. Finding of this study showed the discussion method could effectively improve students speaking skill, encourage them in the discussion actively, make them feel more relaxed at learning.
