Reading Habits as a Determining Factor in Writing Skill

Abstract

Students' reading habits are very influential in the learning process, especially to improve writing skills. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between reading habits and students' writing skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlation design. Data were taken by questionnaires and tests. The samples taken were 28 students of class X SMK Bina Insan Mandiri, Jakarta with random sampling technique. Based on the results of the calculation of the product moment correlation coefficient data states r_(count>r_(table ) )(0.775> 0.361). T_(table at )? = 0, 05, 0,775 >0, 361. The results of the research for the coefficient of determination showed that students' reading habits on writing skills were 4.449% while the existence of scores was determined by other factors. This study found a positive relationship between students' reading habits and their writing skill.
