Abstract

Speaking is the productive skill in the oral mode. This research was aimed to find out the improvement of the students’ achievement at speaking by using small group discussion. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The technique of from observation sheet, interview, and speaking test (oral). The subject of this research was the second grades junior high school Yapinuh, in academic year 2018/2019. It consisted of one class with 25 students as respondents it concluded of research can be explained in two cycles. Cycle 1 has the data of 60% students to achieved the standart score achievement, and cycle 2 the students increase of 84% to achieved the standart score achievement. Findings of this study showed the small group discussion could effectively improve students speaking skill, encourage them in the group work discussion actively, make them feel more relaxed at learning.
